Space is a real issue in the dorm room. Usually two share the room, but there could be three. Typically, there are two sets of closets and desks. Usually, there is a place for hanging clothes and either shelf or drawer space. If there is a sink there may or may not be a cabinet below. Sometimes, there may be areas for suitcases and trunks a dorm storage room. Here are some things to consider:

  • Use wire hangers which are thinner than plastic and allow for more hanging space
  • Use wire hangers with cardboard for pants
  • Use multiple garment hangers for skirts, pants, blouses or shirts
  • Fold sweaters, tee shirts and sweat shirts
  • Elevate beds, if possible, to create space beneath for plastic storage bins
  • Use a laundry bag, pillow case or a small clothes basket for dirty clothes
  • Store seasonal clothing in the trunks, suitcases or storage bins
  • Place hygiene items, hair dryers, and laundry products below sink if cabinet available
  • Use small storage bins or shoe boxes to separate common space fairly
