Physicals and Immunizations

Prior to starting college, schedule a pre-college physical examination with your personal health care provider. Plan this early, as it takes time to arrange an appointment. Prepare for the appointment by bringing a record of all immunizations, and a list of questions that you or your parents may have. There will be some general screening tests and immunizations. You should expect this from the visit:

  • Physical examination
  • Review of past immunization dates
    • Diphtheria/Tetanus
    • Polio
    • Haemophilus Influenza
    • Hepatitis B
    • Hepatitis A
    • Varicella or history of chickenpox disease
    • Measles/Mumps/Rubella
  • Immunizations
    • Administering those that need updating
    • Initiating suggested series not given in the past
    • Discussing newly recommended meningococcal vaccine
  • Screening Tests
    • Vision
    • Hearing
    • CBC (complete blood count)
    • Varicella titer if no history of chickenpox disease
    • Urinalysis
    • TB (Tuberculosis)
    • Women’s Health
    • Pap smear (if sexually active)
    • Breast examination
